Title: Drug and alcohol use course
Purpose statement: To persuade audience that having a mandatory course on drugs and alcohol abuse in high school is beneficial for the students because it would educate students on how to make conscientious decisions.
Thesis statement: Having a course on drug and alcohol use should be mandatory in high school due to the decision making, health risks, and personal relationships that substance abuse could potential affect.
Introduction: A lot of college students do not know the harm of drugs and alcohol now since they were not properly educated when they were in high school. Having a course in high school that is mandatory and that is only about drug and alcohol abuse would be very beneficial to students so that they do not get hurt or effected in a bad way.
Main point 1: In high school, the class that we took was health and they barely talked about drugs. They only put a picture of the drug, the name of it, and 3 facts about it. They never talked about how it effects the body negatively, or anything graphic.
Main point 2: (Personal experiences) 2 students from my high school past away from overdose on heroin. This may be due to the fact that they were not properly educated on the subject.
Main point 3: Ways to improve this are to make a mandatory class that focuses directly on drugs and alcohol. The course should have videos or documentaries on people who got addicted and how they overcame it, so that students can see what these kinds of things do to you.
Conclusion: There are students who are not aware of the downfalls of these harmful products. If they are educated properly, they will be more aware of what they are using and be more careful about it.
